Everything You Need To Know About The P30i CPAP Mask!
The folks at Resmed have been busy! Since late 2018, they've released several new, innovative CPAP masks but one, in particular, has a lot of CPAP users talking.
It's the AirFit™ P30i nasal pillow CPAP mask. The updated cousin of the Resmed favourite P10 mask.
Starting at the very top, this mask offers a top-of-the-head hose connector that swivels 360 degrees, ideal if you like to sleep in different positions. This feature allows you the freedom to move in all directions without getting your tubing tangled. The swivel is equipped with expire air vents to remove carbon dioxide and a quick release function minimizes fumbling at night. Need a midnight bathroom run? No sweat! Just pinch to release the mask from the tubing when nature calls. No need to take off the mask.
Next, the frame features an accordion-like SpringFit™ frame that's hollow for even distribution of air. The SpringFit™ frame allows the mask to contour to your head while preventing over-tightening. The technology allows for flexibility, reduces red marks and creates an open line of vision - great if you wear glasses or tend to feel a little claustrophobic in full-face masks.
The mask has fleece wraps to increase comfort and minimizes pesky mask lines. The headgear is plush cloth and is adjusted with Velcro straps on either side.
-
Standard frame - with small, medium and large size pillow cushions
-
Small frame - with small and medium-size pillow cushions
The front of the pillow cushions is equipped with QuietAir vent technology which disperses C02 evenly and quietly.
The P30i offers some interchangeability. The AirFit™ N30i nasal cushion will fit this mask frame and headgear. Carefully pull the frame and nasal cushion apart, align arrows of cradle cushion and snap in to reconnect (the same way you'd change cushion sizes).
One thing to remember: The P30i is NOT compatible with the AirMini. It does work with all other CPAP, APAP and BiPAP machines, but if you use an AirMini portable machine, you're out of luck when it comes to this mask.
There you have it folks - everything you need to know about the new AirFit P30i nasal pillow CPAP mask. This mask is already a best seller on cpapmachines.ca. Pick one up for yourself and let us know what you think in our review section.

Must Read: 5 Things To Know Before Buying A CPAP Machine
If you're shopping for a CPAP machine, this blog post is a great place to start. Treating your Sleep Apnea can significantly improve your quality of sleep because life is too short to be tired all the time. To avoid unnecessary stress and buyer's remorse, follow these 5 suggestions to help make your CPAP shopping experience an educated and positive one.
1. See A Doctor
Before you shell out a bunch of money, make sure you actually need a CPAP machine. See your physician get a proper diagnosis. Your diagnosis will likely involve a sleep test and based on those results, your doctor will write you a proper CPAP prescription. The prescription will identify:- What type of Sleep Apnea you have (eg. Obstructive Sleep Apnea or Central Sleep Apnea).
- The CPAP pressure or pressure range you require (prescribed in cmH20).
- What type of CPAP machine is required to treat your Apnea (CPAP, APAP, BiPAP, VPAP etc).
2. Do Your Research
Read and learn as much as you can about Sleep Apnea; the types of treatments available, what type of funding is available from your healthcare system, private insurance policies and how to qualify for them. Identify popular CPAP brands and the newest CPAP models available. Research different styles and sizes of masks and read up-to-date product reviews on the products you are interested in. Make a list to help you narrow down your search. Arming yourself with knowledge about CPAP helps make informed treatment and buying decisions.
3. Visit Your Local CPAP Vendor
Whether you decide to purchase your CPAP machine in-store or online, visit your local CPAP vendor and browse through displays of various machine and mask selection. Take advantage of the ability to physically see, touch and test features of the potential products you are buying. Ask questions and utilize sales associates for their expertise. Ask for a demonstration to check for the noise level of a machine or to try on a CPAP mask to make sure the fit is right for you.
4. Do A CPAP Trial
Most CPAP vendors offer a 2-4 week trial period, allowing you to rent a CPAP machine and try out the therapy in your own home (for a nominal fee). This trial is tremendously helpful because it allows you to learn how the therapy works, how the equipment functions and what features the best help you adapt to your therapy. You will also quickly learn if a mask is fitting right -- you may switch a few times until you find a suitable face mask that is comfortable for you. At the end of the trial period, you'll have a better idea of purchasing a particular CPAP machine is right for you.
5. Set A Budget
In Canada, CPAP machines often range from $500 - $3000. The more you are willing to pay the wider range of options: machines, masks, accessories, warranty and aftercare service provided by your CPAP vendor. But paying more for some bells and whistles doesn't always get you better treatment. Setting a reasonable budget helps narrow down must-haves and accessories you can forgo.
TIP: Opt for a good quality CPAP main unit with good reviews and take a pass on the travel battery until you have more experience with your starter package.
Follow our 5 suggestions when you're ready to make a CPAP purchase and you'll have a stress-free buying experience.

Why We Like The Dreamwear Series CPAP Masks
When we were first introduced to the Dreamwear mask, we weren’t so sure what to think. Our initial reaction: "this thing looks odd." But, if you break down the components, the design of the Dreamwear mask is actually quite brilliant and functional. Today, we'll take a deep dive into the Dreamwear CPAP mask and offer our own take on this unique mask by Philips Respironics.
This mask was designed for comfort; streamlined to maximize sightlines (ever tried watching TV in bed while wearing a CPAP mask?), and by the looks (and feel) of it, they succeeded.
The exhalation ports in the front of the mask dissipate air well, without sounding like a leaky balloon. Most users we spoke to say their partners didn't notice much noise either, or compared to a lot of other CPAP masks, the Dreamwear kept its promise of being quiet through the night.
The Dreamwear has a soft and simple back head-strap to keep the mask securely in place while asleep. We found that the nasal cushion sits comfortably under the nostrils and creates a non-invasive seal. The soft silicone frame runs across the cheeks and over the temples to the tube attachment on the top of the crown. The placement of this connection to the long tubing will ensure it will be out of the way during sleep. The soft material means fewer "mask seams" on your face in the morning, so you'll spend less time trying to fluff out those awkward scars some tighter-fitting masks may create.
The airflow from the therapy flows evenly through the frame. If you sleep on your side, you might end up cutting off the airflow from one side of the mask. No problem: the other side will compensate but it might cause some increased airflow noise. Some Dreamwear users we spoke to say the sound of the airflow is actually soothing and others found it a bit too noisy.
The Dreamwear packaging comes standard in a medium frame and with 3 cushion sizes. Users can purchase separately a small or large size frame if the medium size does not fit.
With the success of the Dreamwear, Respironics has expanded the Dreamwear family to include a gel cushion and a low-profile, full face style.
One last thing: make sure to take the time to be fitted for the Dreamwear mask. Sure, its main goal is functionality, but this mask was built for comfort. And it delivers .... for most people. Be sure to visit your local CPAP vendor and ask to try the mask on for size to see if the Dreamwear series is a right fit for you.
